Review 2025.05.002
Reviewers Note: It is the beginning of 2025 and one of the skills I desire to grow in is that of writing book reviews (having never done this before). I am doing this so I can better hone my writing (and reading) skills as I seek to think more critically about the books I am reading. I am sharing on Goodreads for my own personal development. I know this will be something I am always growing in so if you actually read these, please be patient with me as I develop this skill. I will also receive constructive criticism if you desire to help me become a better writer (and reader). I plan to use this disclaimer for the entire 2025 year.

Critical Mass by Daniel Suarez

This was a great follow up to Delta-V. It was just as exciting to read as the first. It did feel a bit preachy a few times with regards to global warming. I’m not for or against global warming mind you (that statement amuses me greatly) but I do not particularly want to be preached at. I know the author can make the point without being preachy because he did it in the first book. And he did it in the second book regarding a different issue (politics). I just had to ignore the two or three times it felt that way. That was really the only complaint I had.
The book continues where the last one ended with the need to create a cis-lunar economy to help propel humanity into space. Just now it reminded me of Neal Stephenson in the quality of the content. It really felt like Daniel Suarez tried to be as accurate as possible without something so fanciful as to be unbelievable (since it was based in the “real” world). I finished it quickly just like I have finished all of his books.
If you pick up Delta-V and like that book, then of course you will want to get this book too. I definitely recommend it.
