Review 2025.04.003

Reviewers Note: It is the beginning of 2025 and one of the skills I desire to grow in is that of writing book reviews (having never done this before). I am doing this so I can better hone my writing (and reading) skills as I seek to think more critically about the books I am reading. I am sharing on Goodreads for my own personal development. I know this will be something I am always growing in so if you actually read these, please be patient with me as I develop this skill. I will also receive constructive criticism if you desire to help me become a better writer (and reader). I plan to use this disclaimer for the entire 2025 year.

Live No Lies by John Mark Comer

336 Pages

This is the third book by John Mark Comer I have read.  I think it might be the one I like the most, although all of them were good.  All his books have been easy to read and practical.  My highlights from the book are not especially helpful in reminding me about specifics from the book to share but I do remember the main points.

Mr. Comer breaks it down into three areas we have to fight against lies – the devil, our flesh, and the world.  This aligns with most, if not all, of Christianity, the Bible, and my own personal views as well.  If only it were easy to defeat lies from each one of those areas.

It is hard to overcome believing the lies that are in my mind (flesh).  Many times I am not even sure what lie I am believing and how to find the full truth especially since most lies have some truth in them.  One area I have to fight pretty often is the lie that I am not loved which leads to self-loathing.  This is both my flesh and the adversary (the devil).  I know the truth that being God’s son proves that I am loved but I do not always “know” it.

While isolation leads to the lies growing in our mind, God’s word and a strong and honest community of believers help us overcome the lies we believe. I have experienced this with my Christian friends (the deep level one friends – not acquaintances).  That is just some of the solid advice the author gives throughout the book.

I can recommend this book to followers of Christ who need encouragement and help overcoming lies in their life.
