Review 2025.04.010

Reviewers Note: It is the beginning of 2025 and one of the skills I desire to grow in is that of writing book reviews (having never done this before). I am doing this so I can better hone my writing (and reading) skills as I seek to think more critically about the books I am reading. I am sharing on Goodreads for my own personal development. I know this will be something I am always growing in so if you actually read these, please be patient with me as I develop this skill. I will also receive constructive criticism if you desire to help me become a better writer (and reader). I plan to use this disclaimer for the entire 2025 year.

Delta-V by Daniel Suarez

437 Pages

My first foray into the books of Daniel Suarez was “Daemon” and the follow up book “Freedom”.  I recently reread Daemon and it is still an amazing book.  So I looked on Amazon and found a few other books by him and added them to my wish list.  When Delta-V went on sale, I grabbed it.  It took me a bit to actually start reading it because I had a few other fiction books to get through and I also wanted to get the second book in the series so I could read straight through.

This book did not disappoint me. It grabbed me early and kept me engaged the entire time and I could not wait to start the second book (which at this point I have already finished).

The story is about getting humanity into space in a real way and how one billionaire made it happen. And no, it is not a story about Musk or Bezos but it seems they have counterparts in the book.  One of the biggest problems we have is getting material into space.  The cost is just so high to get things out of our atmosphere.  But if we mine the materials we need in space from an asteroid then the cost is significantly less (after all the mining equipment is in space of course).

So when will someone bring a cislunar economy into existence?  It would be cool to see in my lifetime but I have no idea if that is possible.  I recommend the book.
