Review 2025.04.009
Reviewers Note: It is the beginning of 2025 and one of the skills I desire to grow in is that of writing book reviews (having never done this before). I am doing this so I can better hone my writing (and reading) skills as I seek to think more critically about the books I am reading. I am sharing on Goodreads for my own personal development. I know this will be something I am always growing in so if you actually read these, please be patient with me as I develop this skill. I will also receive constructive criticism if you desire to help me become a better writer (and reader). I plan to use this disclaimer for the entire 2025 year.
Rejoicing in Christ by Michael Reeves
137 Pages
I had this book on my wish list for a few years. It was recommended by a fellow disciple of Jesus (a different disciple than the one who recommended “Divine Nobodies”). She reads this book regularly and wanted me to enjoy all the goodness it gave her. It finally went on sale so I grabbed it and boy was she excited. So much so that she told me to lie to her if I didn’t like it. Of course, I asked her if that was what Christ would want. We enjoyed a good laugh over that.
I read a bulk of this book on Good Friday and I’m not sure it would have had the same effect it had on me if I had read it at another time. I was already in a reflective state because of Easter and the joy that comes with remembering the resurrection and Christ. This book fueled my remembrance and rejoicing in Christ even more.
One of the quotes I saved gave me pause when I read it. I am ready to go to heaven and be with Jesus but I am sure that I do not fully grasp being with Him the way the Apostle Paul did.
“Take the apostle Paul as an example of one who felt this deep in his stomach. For all his obvious delight in justification by faith alone, salvation by grace alone, and so forth, his desire was not to depart and be in heaven. His hearty desire, he wrote to the Philippians, was to depart and be with Christ (Phil 1:23).”
How do I get my life to that point?
It is a short book and you can read it in a few days depending on your reading habits. I can recommend it to disciples of Jesus who want to remember why Christ is so good.
