Review 2025.02.009
Reviewers Note: It is the beginning of 2025 and one of the skills I desire to grow in is that of writing book reviews (having never done this before). I am doing this so I can better hone my writing (and reading) skills as I seek to think more critically about the books I am reading. I am sharing on Goodreads for my own personal development. I know this will be something I am always growing in so if you actually read these, please be patient with me as I develop this skill. I will also receive constructive criticism if you desire to help me become a better writer (and reader). I plan to use this disclaimer for the entire 2025 year.
Dare To Lead by Brene Brown
332 Pages
I enjoyed this book. It was an easy read. There was some minor language in the book which confused me because it is a book on leadership and it seems unprofessional for leaders to use language that, in my opinion, makes them look smaller. And in some cases makes other people feel smaller. Leaders are meant to build people up. Their job is to serve those people they are leading. Add to that, the religious beliefs Mrs. Brown states she believes and I was even more confused by the language.
Beyond that, I enjoyed her personal stories of overcoming challenges and lies that she believes and honestly that many of us believe. It was very relatable while also being practical. I was able to correlate her experiences to things in my own life. And I know that there will be many chances to work on being vulnerable so that I might lead better. It is a tough balancing act to be the right kind of vulnerable.
I can recommend the book and the author. I ended up getting one of her other books (Rising Strong) after I completed this one so if I get around to reading that I will hopefully write a brief review on that one too.
