Psalms Prayer Project

One of the people I’m reading the Bible with each day has a desire to improve their prayer life.  I think part of it stemmed from the prayers we read in the book of Daniel.  We discussed options over email like setting alarms on your phone to remind you to pray.  I shared that one of the things the kids and I do is talk about the things we are thankful for at 7:20 each morning.  Lord we are thankful for heaters on cold mornings.  With my kids the things we will be thankful for vary greatly each day.

So I prayerfully asked God what else we could do to help develop our prayer life.  I ended up suggesting we read through Psalms with the overall idea of reflecting them back on our prayer life.  Today we read the first five chapters of Psalms and we will read five each day.  This many chapters is sometimes a bit fast for me because I like to meditate over verses a bit longer as God leads.  Alas, I know He will use my time in His Word regardless of my speed.

Hopefully I will be able to write about some of the things He is teaching me about prayer over the next few weeks.

I’ve been doing one psalm a week for years. I’d love to hear how your experiment goes. We will be on Psalm 112 next Wednesday night.
