I am reading a book about a person’s conversion. He talks about how some denominations pull Ephesians 2:8-9 out of context to show the elect are saved by faith only. This belief is easily refuted by the verse itself.
Ephesians 2:8-9 – For by grace you are saved through faith, and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God; it is not from works, so that no one can boast.
For by grace you are saved…
But he actually took it a different route. He was fighting the works based salvation but it seemed the entire time he was fighting it, he was actually promoting a works based salvation. It seemed quite unusual. He has not got there in the book yet but the question will come down to – what is required for salvation?
I’m not finished with the book yet but it has riled me up a bit which is always fun.
