Just Two Verses

After the kids and I finished the New Testament about two weeks back, I wasn’t sure what we were going to do during family worship.  We have already read parts of the Old Testament as well and I thought about picking that back up but I really wasn’t sure.  One night, while we waited on God, we just talked to Him the whole time and the other nights we read a devotional we have been reading on Colossians and sang.  Then last week as I was reading some of the blogs I follow, I read about Hosea and I knew that was what we needed to do.  But not just read it, really study it in depth.  I did not have a lot of time to prepare but I got some ideas together and began.
Hosea 1:2 – When the LORD first spoke through Hosea, he said to him, “Go marry a prostitute who will bear illegitimate children conceived through prostitution, because the nation continually commits spiritual prostitution by turning away from the LORD.”
I determined in advance that we would only do this type of study once a week.  So Thursday we read the first two verses of chapter one and talked for almost 30 minutes.  Do you think you could be a prophet of God for sixty to seventy years during the reign of four evil kings?  I loved Kristen’s answer – only with God’s help.  How would you feel if God asked you to marry someone who would be unfaithful?  How do we turn away from the Lord?  What small or large changes can we make in those areas to correct our fellowship with God and journey of faith?  Yes I was nerding out.  I just pray that I can maintain the excitement because it isn’t always easy.
