Review 2025.07.002
Reviewers Note: It is the middle of 2025 and I am not doing a good job of keeping up with this desired goal of mine to write book reviews. I do not want to lower my expectations but I am going to so that I can catch up. This will mean short reviews on the books I read.
Gay Girl, Good God by Jackie Hill Perry
193 Pages
When I started this book I had one idea in my head about what this book would be. Thankfully this book was so much more. I love reading people’s stories and Jackie Hill Perry’s story is powerful.
Now the first chapter or two I was a little thrown by her writing style. It is not crazy but it was throwing me off. But after a few chapters I caught the rhythm of her words and it just made the book so much better. I love words and she is a wordsmith.
I did not capture too many quotes (only four) but I’m sure I could have captured more. One of my favorite quotes was “I’d been sinning my entire life. But I was not alive—I was only breathing. And God wanted me to believe it before even that passed away.” I was not alive – I was only breathing. That hit me hard. I cried then and several times throughout the book.
I highly recommend it for any disciple of Jesus who loves to read people’s life stories.
